Latest news about shop closure

Our worldpay account expires 3 May 2008 and we will not be renewing this, although payments via Paypal will still be possible throughout the rest of May.

We are now very low on stock and are reducing everything that is left. Super Smurfs we have left have just been reduced and playsets and buildings will be next. Please keep an eye out for bargains as we will be working to clear a lot of stock in the next 7 - 10 days.

Kitty’s Cavern Business Changes

We are sorry to announce that we are now running down stock at www.kittyscavern.com with a view to closing the retail side later this year. We had considered this action at the end of 2006 but decided to try and continue. Last summer, a family member became very ill and now needs constant support, we are therefore freeing ourselves of as many commitments as possible, and the Smurf Shop is one of them.

The plan for the website is to turn it into an ID guide as opposed to a shop, and we also hope to continue with the British Smurf Collectors Club online. We are still in the process of computerising all of the records of the Smurf Collectors Club and this job is about halfway through now. Although we are not going to be selling smurfs ourselves (as soon as stocks are depleted), we do hope to use the website as a platform to advise you of special offers from other dealers. The aim is to continue providing a service for smurf collectors, but this just won’t involve actually selling smurfs ourselves.

There is no facility on the website to hold a sale, other than go through every record and alter the price, which would take too long. What we would like to say is that if you have had your eye on any particular items and can’t afford them at current prices, by all means drop us an email and we will see what we can do for you. As time is very limited for us at the moment, we will only offer discounts on orders over £50 in value, but they will on the whole be very good discounts. The main items that can’t be heavily discounted are ones with a V in the item code.

We have finished placing any orders with Schleich, Bullyland. Lundby, etc., so once the existing stock is gone then it won’t be replenished. We do have a lot of stock that has not been added to the website yet though, so new items will be added still but these are from existing stock rests.

There is a very good alternative supplier in the UK now and we will ensure details of all alternative suppliers are placed on the website when the time comes to close the shop.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for their support over the past 5 years. With the rebirth of the smurfs for their 50th Anniversary, hopefully this means you will soon be able to buy smurfy items more easily from your hometowns.

We are now accepting pre-orders for the 2008 smurfs. As always we are very careful to ensure we only send out perfect smurfs to our customers. If you are buying for children and don’t mind the odd paint splash then we will be selling any smurfs with imperfections at a cheaper price in our Bargain sections, once we receive them.

Lundby Advent Calendar now in stock!

We have just received the 2007 Lundby Advent Calendars into stock. With a Lundby surprise behind the 24 different doors, this is a seasonal delight for Lundby collectors and dollshouse lovers. Lundby are the Swedish manufacturers of the original dollshouse with lights, and children all over the world still enjoy these beautiful houses with their true to life miniature furniture, dolls and accessories.

Please note that unfortunately we cannot economically ship these outside of the UK due to their large size, they cannot be sent by airmail “small packet” post due to size restrictions.

Please note that the Smurfette’s bedroom playset is already out of stock with Schleich Germany so these are going to become harder to find fairly soon, we have already run out of the new version and just have one left in the older box style. The new smurfs for 2008 should be announced sometime in November and we are hoping something exciting will be announced for the anniversary!

Smurfy Events in Belgium - Smurf Collectors Fair 14 October 2007

For many of us in the UK and other smurfless parts of the world, car boot sales, yard sales and local shops are all pretty much experiencing a smurf drought. We rarely have the opportunity to see these little blue fellows in our hands before purchasing them, and if you tell the people around you that you collect smurfs then they tend to look at you like you are some kind of alien life form! A good example this week was when a television company phoned us up asking for lady smurf collectors to take part in a show about high maintenance wives, the idea being that lady smurf collectors must cause their other halves dreadful stress because of their habit! No comment I must add!

So anyway, do you fancy being considered “normal” for a day? Would you like to be surrounded by smurfs and get to meet Studio Peyo who will be drawing pictures for visitors? And all this in the beautiful city of Brussels, where you can sample delightful Belgian chocolate, sample the local cuisine, and even visit the Comic Strip Museum. Why not book a ticket on the Eurostar from London to Brussels, the journey is approximately 2.5 hours, and it makes for a very pleasant trip.

The Smurf Fair is the second one organised by the Leyseele sisters, and at the fair you will have the chance to meet smurf dealers from across Europe, see rare smurfs you might normally only see in photographs, and generally mix with likeminded smurf lovers from across the world. Previously there has been a Smurf Fair called Schtroumpf Passion which is traditionally held in March or April each year in La Louviere. Sadly we are informed that the La Louviere fair will not be repeated in 2008 so if you were planning to make the trip to the next Smurf Passion then you may wish to consider the October fair as an alternative. The added benefit of the October fair is that it is in Brussels itself, so you can make a weekend of it if you wish, or a day visit is also possible. Please see the poster for more information. If you are a dealer and wish to have a stand at the fair then please email Veronique or Michelle on the email address shown in the picture. The fair starts at 9am on Sunday 14th October 2007. The area of Brussels where it is located is St-Gillis, the place is called Stadhuis van St-Gillis which is the City Hall of St-Gillis. Latest Smurfy happenings

The best smurfy news we’ve had in the past couple of weeks is that the Smurf Movie is pencilled in for November 2008! Apparently the summer success of the Transformers movie has convinced producers to bring back various television cartoon characters of the past!

Talking of Smurf Movies, we’ve managed to get hold of copies of the original Smurf Movie programme, “The Smurfs and the Magic Flute”, dating back to 1983! Check out our books section for this rare piece of smurf memorabilia.

And for die-hard collectors of all-things smurf-like but not necessarily smurfy, we’ve found an original advert about Empire Gnomes. The Gnome Family and Lucky Little Leprechauns were made by Empire in the late 1970s and early 1980s and appear very much inspired by the Smurfs.
