Clumsy Smurf is the accident-prone, big-hearted member of Peyo's village: the one who trips over his own feet, knocks things off tables, and apologizes with a sheepish grin. He means well in every version of the franchise, from the comics to the 1981 Hanna-Barbera cartoon, the live-action films, Smurfs: The Lost Village, and the 2025 movie. On screen he is easy to spot because his white cap sits low over his eyes, a detail the French Wikipedia list notes was later borrowed by Dimwitty Smurf in the comics. His best friend in the classic cartoon is Brainy Smurf, and his clumsiness usually drives the plot rather than ruining it. This page gives the short, checked profile searchers ask for, then does what the wikis skip: it walks through the Clumsy Smurf toy and figurine releases collectors actually hunt for, and how the markings tell them apart.

Who does Clumsy Smurf have a crush on?

Nobody, if the question is about Smurfette. Across the comics, the 1981 cartoon and the live-action films, Clumsy and Smurfette are close friends and nothing more; the Wikipedia character list records no romance for him at all in those versions. The "clumsy smurf and smurfette" searches come from the 2017 film, where the two of them, Hefty and Brainy sneak out of the village together as Team Smurf. In that story it is Hefty, not Clumsy, who carries a crush on Smurfette. The only romantic threads tied to Clumsy sit elsewhere: in the 2021 series, Smurfstorm from Smurfy Grove is described as his love interest, and Smurfclover, another Smurfy Grove Smurf, is written as having a crush on him. So the honest answer is that Clumsy's girlfriend depends on which show you are watching, and in the classic material he does not have one.

Five actors have voiced him in the main English-language productions. William Callaway voiced Clumsy, along with Painter Smurf and other villagers, through the NBC run of the Hanna-Barbera series from 1981 to 1989. Anton Yelchin took the part for the Sony live-action hybrids, The Smurfs in 2011 and The Smurfs 2 in 2013. Jack McBrayer voiced him in the fully animated Smurfs: The Lost Village in 2017. Tess Bryant voices Clumsy in the English dub of the 2021 CGI series, which reached Nickelodeon in the United States that September. Hugo Miller is credited as Clumsy in the Paramount film Smurfs, released in July 2025. If you hear a different name attached to the role, it is usually a cast list for a dub in another language or a video game.

The Hanna-Barbera series is where most adults remember him from, and it fixed the look that every toy maker has copied since: the oversized cap sliding over his eyes and the slightly baggy outfit. Episodes often pair him with Brainy, the know-it-all whose lectures Clumsy patiently absorbs, and the two are the classic cartoon's clearest friendship. He also gets his own side characters; the Wikipedia character list notes Pansy, a clumsy Pussywillow Pixie, as a good friend of his. The cartoon leans into his being a little slow as well as accident-prone, which is a step away from the comics, where his awkwardness is physical rather than mental and his clothes look like everyone else's. That gap matters to collectors, because figures based on the cartoon show the low cap, while comic-style art does not.

In the 2011 live-action film Clumsy is almost the lead among the Smurfs. He wanders off to pick smurfroot, unknowingly leads Gargamel to the village, and then runs toward the Forbidden Falls, where a blue-moon portal drops a handful of Smurfs into New York. The rest of the movie is about him proving he is more than a walking accident. Anton Yelchin returned for the 2013 sequel. Smurfs: The Lost Village in 2017 made him a quarter of Team Smurf alongside Smurfette, Hefty and Brainy, and gave him a flight with Smurfstorm in which he accidentally lets slip that Gargamel created Smurfette. The 2025 Paramount film puts a new Smurf called No Name at the center, and Clumsy is a supporting voice rather than a plot driver. Clumsy Smurf toy releases fall into five families. First, vintage Schleich PVCs from the late 1970s and 1980s: collectors list a Clumsy with falling ice skates and a red scarf, and a Clumsy spilling a basket. Second, later Schleich figures, including a movie-era Clumsy that turns up marked Made in Germany and the current catalog figure, number 20810. Third, plush: Jakks Pacific made jumbo plush and eight-inch bean-bag plush for the 2011 film and a bean-bag Clumsy for The Smurfs 2, and Kidrobot sells a Phunny Clumsy of roughly seven and a half inches based on the classic cartoon. Fourth, movie toys: Jakks Grab 'Ems mini figures, including a Papa Smurf and Clumsy two-pack, and the 2017 Lost Village line of figures, two-packs and talking plush that Toybook reported in February 2017. Fifth, Funko: we did not find a Clumsy Pop in the Smurfs waves we checked, which covered Papa, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty, Grouchy, Handy and Vanity.

How stamps and variants tell Clumsy figures apart

Turn the figure over. Vintage Schleich Smurfs carry Peyo, usually with a year and often a country, on the feet or the back. The blueimps markings guide explains that the year is the first year of the mold, not the year your copy was poured, so a Clumsy stamped with one date may have been produced for years afterward. W. Germany marks the pre-1990 German factory; Made in Germany is the post-reunification stamp; Hong Kong pieces usually add W. Berrie & Co. for the American market; Portugal, Sri Lanka, Macau and China appear on later or outsourced runs. Small painted dots on the feet record the paint shop, with yellow linked to Portugal and red to Sri Lanka. Bully-marked copies were made under Schleich's license. Paint differences, scarf color, and whether the eyes are printed or hand-painted separate otherwise identical Clumsy molds, and a figure with no mark at all should be treated as a knock-off until proved otherwise.

Which Clumsy figure is rarest?

No published database names a single rarest Clumsy Smurf figure, so we will not either. What collectors on the Blue Buddies and Blue Cavern forums report is a pattern rather than a figure: the earliest marking variants of any Schleich Smurf, such as copies with only Peyo on the arm and nothing on the feet, or Bully-marked West German examples, change hands far less often than the common Hong Kong and Portugal runs. Applied to Clumsy, that means the vintage ice-skates and spilling-basket molds in their earliest marking states are the ones to watch, and the Toys R Us exclusive Clumsy that forum members list under number 21011 is cited as harder to find than the regular catalog figure. Treat all of that as collector report, not established fact, until the figure checklist on this page has photographed examples with their stamps. Our rare Smurfs guide covers the general rarity tiers.

If you want a new one, the Schleich 20810 Clumsy Smurf is the standard two-inch PVC in the current catalog, though retailers mark it sold out from time to time. For a clumsy smurf plush, the Kidrobot Phunny is the easiest current option and matches the cartoon look; the Jakks Pacific movie plush from 2011, 2013 and 2017 are secondhand only now. The 2025 film's Schmidt Spiele plush range did not include Clumsy, so do not expect a movie-branded plush from that release. On the secondhand market, ask the seller for a clear photo of the foot stamp before paying a vintage premium, check that the scarf and basket are original paint and not touch-ups, and compare the listing against the figure checklist below once it is populated. Sealed Jakks two-packs and Grab 'Ems are the cheapest way to get a movie-styled Clumsy with its packaging intact.
